IT'S CHILDREN'S BOOK WEEK!

And that means readers everywhere are celebrating the importance of books in their lives. The dreams, adventures, discoveries, laughter, wrinkled brows, facts, tears, thrills ... really, every emotion and facet of life can be found between the covers of the books of the world. We celebrate them!

Check out the Children's Book Week website for news about the gala event taking place to honor the Children's Choice Awards, featuring Jon Sciesczka as the host and Children's Laureate, as well as Al Roker, who is being honored with an Impact Award for his works with children's books on The Today Show on NBC with "Al's Book Club for Kids."

Children's Book Week has been celebrated since 1916, when the Boy Scouts of America, the American Library Association, and the American Booksellers Association joined together to promote higher standards in children's books.

William Durbin

KLIATT Editor's Choice List

Congratulations to CLN member William Durbin, whose book The Winter War (Wendy Lamb Books / Random House) has been made to KLIATT's Best of the Year's Hardcover YA Fiction list. Set in 1939 Finland when Russia invaded its smaller neighbor, the story of Marko, a boy who skis extremely well despite a leg that was stricken by polio, is one of bravery and determination. Finland had 30 tanks to defend itself against Russia's 3,000, but volunteers like Marko—and Karl—helped Finland show what tough guerrilla warrior its citizens are.
