Author and illustrator Lauren Stringer celebrates her birthday on March 29th. She was born in Great Falls, Montana, graduated from college at the University of California in Santa Cruz and studied at the Whitney Museum in New York City. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Edward Albee Foundation, the Millay Colony for the Arts, and at Altos de Chavon in the Dominican Republic. Lauren moved to Minnesota in 1988. Three years later she received the McKnight Fellowship for sculpture. In 1994, she published her first children’s book, Mud, which was graced with several awards including the Minnesota Book Award. Her most recent book is Fold Me a Poem, a book of poetry by Kristine O'Connell George about origami. Today Lauren lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota with her husband and two children.
