Jan Ormerod was born on September 23rd in Australia. She taught art and design in college until her first child was born. Looking at her child's picture books, she was inspired to try her hand at illustration. She makes extensive use of the computer in the rough stages of her artwork, finishing it by hand. Ormerod lives in the United States. Her first book was Sunshine, a wordless picture book, which won the Mother Goose Award, was voted the Australian Picture Book of the Year, and was listed as an ALA Notable Book. Among her other titles are Rhymes Around the Day, Father Christmas and the Donkey, and her illustrated version of Peter Pan. Ms. Ormerod lives in Cambridge, England.
