Speaking and School Visit Information
Ruth is willing to speak to students about her book, as well as topics related to it. She has spoken to students as young as 2 years old in a preschool setting, and as old as sophomores in a high school English class. Obviously, the presentation varies according to the age and maturity of the audience, but Ruth always encourages students to tailor the presentation to their interests by asking questions that concern them. During story hours and presentations with young children, Ruth has talked about fears and how they can be overcome. Older children have heard her speak about the publishing process and how stories are created. At a Young Writer’s Conference, Ruth presented a break-out session called Story Skeletons, at which she showed students some basic patterns of stories, helped them to create group stories on the spot, and take the frames home to help them in their future writing efforts. |
