Cheryl was born in Colorado, grew up in Iowa, but has called Duluth, MN, home for over thirty years. Formerly an elementary and special education teacher, her best memories are reading aloud hundreds of wonderful books with her students.

Upon retiring, Cheryl decided to begin writing for children herself. She is the author of Beaver, Bear, Snowshoe Hare (Raven Productions, Inc., 2010), a book of poetry and information about northwoods mammals. The book is delightfully illustrated by Lutsen artist Anna Hess.

Cheryl and her husband, Walt, are frequently on the road, visiting family, children, grandchildren, and friends across the country. No matter where they’ve been, they are always happy to return home, where they enjoy kayaking, camping, hiking, and skiing. Indoors, Cheryl might be found cooking up a storm in her little kitchen, knitting on her sunny porch, or sitting at her desk, working on her next book!

From the Shrew who dines at the Swamp Café, to the Wolverine who licks bones clean, the mammals in this book entertain and educate readers of all ages. The poems, in a variety of forms, are sometimes serious, often humorous, and always fun to read aloud. A brief paragraph accompanies each mammal, giving interesting details and making the book informative for both children and the adults who read to them. The book includes a simple taxonomy and a page describing poetry forms. Lesson plans are available through Raven Productions, Inc.
