I reside in the land of 10,000 Lakes with my husband Jeff and our three children. Everyday life with three kids has filled me abundantly with inspiration for my writing. I’ve always loved going on adventures, whether it be working on a Dinosaur Dig, climbing the Great Wall of China or sky diving (yes, I have done all three!). I think books allow children to step into any adventure at any time. Their imaginations take flight. They learn. They grow. They blossom. It’s a beautiful thing, and I love being a part of making that happen. My background is actually in the toy industry, where I worked in Product Development and Marketing for kid’s brands ranging from Matchbox cars, Madeline dolls and Fisher-Price toys. I loved the toy industry, but always had an avid interest in children’s books. My favorite book growing up as a child was Dr. Suess’ The Cat in the Hat. Now that I have kids, I love reading with them and learning more about what engages them and makes them laugh. I pursued my dreams to become a children’s author in 2005 , when I became a member at The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis. The Minneapolis area has such a wonderful creative community of writers and I feel so blessed to be a part of it. Since I started, I’ve published eight children’s books and have won numerous awards for my work. I do have a stack of 50 rejection letters, so I’ve learned that developing as a writer requires a lot of patience and persistence. I’ve been a busy book worm lately and have more titles sprouting up soon! |
