School was always so important to me as a child. I worked hard and did my homework the minute I got home. I’m not much different today. I’ve taught fourth grade for over thirty years and I still do my homework right away. But now my homework is marking papers. I love teaching, and think there’s nothing more important than learning to become a life-long learner.

I was a semi-finalist for New Hampshire Teacher of the Year, and six high school students who were nominated to be in Who’s Who Among America’s Students had to pick one teacher who influenced them….and they picked me! So I’m in six volumes of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. I’m very honored.

Just after the fourth of July in the summer of 2002, I began writing a children's picture book on the beach on the only paper available, post-its! It was like an alien took over my body, as I walked to the car to get the post-its and a pen. I had never wanted to write a book before, and hadn't planned on writing one that day. Many books later (30+), I'm still loving the process of writing, and I realize it's a different way for me to talk to and teach kids. The 20th book I wrote was the first one to sell! From the time I thought of the idea until it sold (with many rewrites in between) it was about two years. Then it took another two years to get into my hands as a book. It’s been an exciting process.

Because of this shared custody agreement, Mark can be disorganized. He feels scrambled and even a little angry with his parents for getting a divorce. But with time, effort, and the assistance of Mark's parents and teacher, Mark gets a little more organized, and most importantly, starts to come to terms with his parents' divorce.
