I enjoyed a happy childhood growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio. My mother was a very talented watercolor artist, and from a very early age I was surrounded by all kinds of paints, crayons, and colored pencils. At night, my sister and I would make up elaborate stories about an imaginary family of dogs (all the boys were beagles and all the girls were poodles), which I would diligently illustrate the next morning. When I wasn't drawing or writing little books, I spent most of my time outside exploring the wooded creek near our house. I continued studying art throughout high school and college, receiving a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana. After working more than 20 years as a designer and art director, I began working in illustration. I work for publishing, editorial, and corporate clients, but my favorite projects are in children's publishing!
