When Jean Patrick was eight years old, she had two dreams: she wanted to write books and she wanted to play major league baseball for the Chicago Cubs. Unfortunately, Jean never made it to the major leagues, but she fulfilled her biggest dream with the publication of The Girl Who Struck Out Babe Ruth. Currently, Jean travels to schools, libraries, and conferences demonstrating her writing process and dramatizing the true story of Jackie Mitchell, the 17-year-old girl who struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Jean also teaches students about writing with the help of her other books: If I Had a Snowplow; Dolley Madison; Cows, Cats, and Kids: A Veterinarian's Family at Work; and Who Carved the Mountain? The Story of Mount Rushmore. Jean lives near Mitchell, South Dakota where she continues to dream, write, and play baseball with her three children. |
