FIRST PUBLISHED BOOK: Quequechan: Forgotten River, fall 2007 MY GENRE: Innovative nonfiction for kids TOPICS I'M WRITING ABOUT: nature, horses, math adventures, maple sugaring, baked beans MY PASSION: Taking care of the earth, our only home, so future generations don't innocently inherit a mess FAVORITE TRIP: In the summer of 1998, I rode my bike to Provincetown, Massachusetts, from my home 134 miles away. My three children, ages 14, 13, and 10, accompanied me. The trip took three days. When my husband picked us up in Provincetown, he forgot to bring the car bicycle rack! FUNNY ATTRIBUTE: I can get good grades in school, but I can't remember whether to turn right or left down the hall. MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT: When I was seven years old, I rode my bicycle into a leash right between a little old lady and her little old dog. FAVORITE COLOR: Earth FAVORITE ANIMAL: Police horses FAVORITE JOB: Teaching children FAVORITE HOBBY NEXT TO READING AND WRITING: Tough decisionit's between scuba diving and making maple syrup in my backyard. FAVORITE FICTION BOOK: The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver FAVORITE NONFICTION BOOK: Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond -NOW FOR THE REGULAR STUFF- BIRTHPLACE: Fall River, Massachusetts EDUCATION: Bridgewater State College, Lesley University, University of Massachusetts FAMILY: Married with one son, age 24, and two daughters, ages 19 and 22. Quequechan: Forgotten River A river in Fall River, Massachusetts, relates its life story from the time of its first meeting with the "People of the East" to its present day abandoned state. I wrote the story to foster an appreciation for nature and to help prevent people from repeating the mistakes of the past. |
