Sarah Sullivan was born in West Virginia and grew up in Littleton, Colorado, where she spent her days riding bikes, jumping on her neighbor's trampoline and building mud dams in the South Platte River. At the age of 16, she moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where she finished high school. After graduating from Tufts University and West Virginia University College of Law, she began a career as a lawyer, but switched to writing for children around the time she sold her first poem to Chickadee magazine.

In 2005 she earned an MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults from Vermont College. She has published two picture books and has a third forthcoming from Candlewick Press. She has also completed a middle grade novel and is a contributor to The Sunday Gazette-Mail in West Virginia where she lives with her husband Rick.

It's summer on the river, hot enough to melt the tar on the roof, and Squirt is happy to be at Mister Mac's General Store, where her grandfather is treating her to a cold, refreshing Popsicle. Her only dilemma is what flavor to choose—until she meets a girl named Miracle, with her brightly patched dress, who's a nickel shy of buying her own frozen treat. With some quiet help from Granddaddy, Squirt makes just the right choice and ends up with something even better than TWO Popsicles: a new friend.

Dear Baby: Letters from Your Big Brother
illustrated by Paul Meisel
Candlewick, 2005
ISBN 978-0-7636-2126-1

There's a baby on the way! Of course, Mike is very excited and curious about his new sibling. And he's very eager to assume his new role as a big brother. To start, he's decided to record his observations and experiences in a series of letters to the baby, displayed here along with playful illustrations of Mike's own drawings, family "snapshots," and even a sonogram. Whether Mike is feeling like an "invisible boy" or boasting of his new sister's talents, whether furious when she breaks his favorite toy or proud to save her from a hot curling iron, his account of his first year of life as an older brother evolves into a very special keepsake—and a funny, honest and heartfelt tribute to sibling relationships.

A young boy records the ups and downs of life as a new big brother in a scrapbook of funny, earnest letters and other touching memorabilia.
