Brian Lies was born on Valentine's Day in Princeton, New Jersey. He graduated from Brown University in 1985, completing graduate work at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Although he began as an editorial illustrator, he soon found himself intrigued by children's book illustration. He has illustrated the Flatfoot Fox series by Eth Clifford, his own Hamlet books, Irene Livingston's Finklehopper Frog books, and his fly-away New York Times bestseller, Bat at the Beach, which Brian wrote and illustrated. He lives in Massachusetts with his wife and daughter. They had a wonderful time in 2006 traveling throughout New England with their Bat Tour 2006. They're already making plans for their Bat Tour 2007 ... be on the lookout.
