Born on Valentine's Day, Phyllis Root has won the hearts of many readers with her imagination and command of words. Born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, today she lives, works, and teaches in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her first picture book was published in 1985, Moon Tiger. In the last twenty years, she has published more than thirty books, with the most recent title If You Want to See a Caribou, illustrated by fellow Minnesotan Jim Meyer. In 2003, Big Momma Makes the World was given the Boston Globe Horn Book Award.
Phyllis teaches in the MFA program for Writing for Children and Young Adults at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota.
