“Whoever you are, wherever you are, there’s a poem within arm’s reach of you ...” Alice Schertle, born on April 7th, is the award-winning author of over 40 books, several of which are collections of poetry for children. Ms. Schertle is a graduate of the University of Southern California and a former elementary school teacher. Some of her titles include When the Moon is High and Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear.
Ms. Schertle writes, "There are things a poem can say that cannot be expressed as effectively in any other way. I love to find a poem that shows me something, creates an image, perhaps, that is so startling, so original, so unique only one particular poet could have thought of it. But at the same time, the image, the idea, is so true, so right, that I find myself saying, 'Yes! I knew that!'" She loves to hike in the mountains and, if her books are an indication, she is very fond of nature.
