Black Hands, White Sails Booker T. Washington
Fredrick McKissack, born on August 12th, is part of the well known writing team of Patricia and Fredrick McKissack. They knew each other as children in Tennessee, both attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, married, and began collaborating in the early 80's when they both reached turning points in unrelated careers. They have now co-written more than 100 books. Most of their titles are biographies and nonfiction books about the history of African Americans. Fred is the researcher and Pat does the writing, then they both work together to refine the manuscript. Sojourner Truth: Ain't I a Woman, Jesse Jackson: a Biography, and Frederick Douglas: the Black Lion are just a few of their titles.
