Hank Nuwer celebrates his birthday on August 19th, the same day and year (1946) as former President Bill Clinton. A professor of journalism at the Pulliam School of Journalism at Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana, and part-time Indiana University lecturer, Nuwer received his bachelor's degree from Buffalo State College in New York, a master's from Highland University in New Mexico, and an honorary State University of New York doctorate to honor his pioneering hazing research in 2006.
A freelance writer and author of more than 21 books, his books for young adults have exposed the dangers associated with performance-enhancing steroids and the trickery of some college coaches while recruiting blue-chip high school athletes. A nationally recognized expert on high school and college hazing, Nuwer has written several books on the subject, including High School Hazing and Broken Pledges.
His fascination with writers and their craft led him to write To the Young Writer, a book cited as one of the best young adult books of the year by the New York Public Library. He is also the author of Rendezvousing with Contemporary Writers.
