Cow Who Fell in the Canal Benny's Flag
Very Little Boy
Phyllis Krasilovsky, born on August 28th, has written many storybooks for children. She says that writing takes much time and patience. It also takes imagination, and the commitment to stretch that imagination to the limit. It demands a story with a new way of looking at life. But mostly, she says, it requires heart.

"I think it is necessary for an author to read before he can write ... it is like studying old masters' paintings before one can paint. Writing is an intense, grueling, painful experience, but when the going is good it is worth all the self-imposed isolation." Krasilovsky's best-remembered books are The Cow Who Fell in the Canal, illustrated by Peter Spier, and Benny's Flag, illustrated by Jim Fowler.
