Marybeth Lorbiecki, born on August 3rd, An avid outdoorswoman, Marybeth has focused her career on writing and editing children's books. She set up the editorial department at Picture Window Books, worked as a book editor for Carolrhoda Books, and provides freelance editing for other authors. She has a BA and MA in English from Minnesota State University, Mankato. She worked on philosophical discourse analysis at the University of Essex in Colchester, England. Marybeth is the president of the Western Wisconsin Prairie Project (WWPP), a citizen's group working to support a DNR proposal to permanently protect and restore 20,000 acres of native prairie, oak savanna, and other grasslands along the St. Croix River. Two of her books have won awards: Louisa May and Mr. Thoreau's Flute was a 2002 Parents' Choice Recommended Book and Sister Anne's Hands won the 1999 Storytelling World Award as well as being chosen as a Bank Street College Children's Book of the Year.
