Betty Levin was born on September 10th. She is an author, educator, and sheep farmer. She was a founding board member, and member of the steering committee for Children's Literature New England until 1996. She was special instructor in children's literature from 1975-77, and adjunct professor of children's literature from 1977-87 at the Center for the Study of Children's Literature, Simmons College in Boston, MA.

Betty Levin was awarded the Judy Lopez Memorial Award in 1989 for The Trouble with Gramary; Best Book for Young Adults citation, American Library Association, in 1990 for Brother Moose; Books for the Teen Age selection, New York Public Library in 1993 for Mercy's Mill; Parent's Choice Story Book Award in 1994 for Away to Me, Moss!; Children's Book of the Year citation, Child Study Association in 1996 for Gift Horse; and the Hope Dean Award, Foundation for Children's Books in 2001.

Her other books include: The Zoo Conspiracy, The Sword of Culann, A Griffon's Nest, The Forespoken, Landfall, The Beast on the Brink, The Keeping-Room, A Binding Spell. The Keeping Room is one of my favorites!
