Ann Weik Grifalconi was born on September 22nd. She received a certificate in advertising art from Cooper Union Art School in 1950, earning her BS in art education at New York University. She worked in advertising and display and taught at the High School of Fashion Industry in New York for eleven years. She has been a freelance illustrator since 1965. In 1966, she illustrated The Jazz Man for her mother, Mary Hays Weik, receiving both Newbery and Caldecott Honors. Ms. Grifalconi's most recent illustrations can be seen in Walter Dean Myer's book, Patrol.
