Born in Saint Paul, Minnesota on October 19th, author and poet Lisa Westberg Peters is celebrating her birthday! A graduate in journalism at the University of Minnesota, Lisa credits her curiosity and adventurous nature to her father, a scientist and inventor at the 3M Company, and long summers near the Saint Croix River in Wisconsin. The author of many delightful books for children, Lisa often writes about science in quixotic and subtle ways. Her two latest books are Earthshake: Poems from the Ground Up (all about geology but the poems are so playful that the learning is a joy) and Sleepyhead Bear (an exploration of the "r" sound wrapped in a fun story about a bear).
Recently, Lisa and illustrator Lauren Stringer were honored to hear their book, Our Family Tree, read aloud to the attendees at the annual Nobel Conference at Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota.
Although she and her family have moved around the country, today Lisa and her husband live in Minneapolis while their two grown daughters pursue interesting lives in various parts of the planet.
