David Shannon was born in Washington, D.C., on October 5th, but grew up in Spokane, Washington. A graduate of the Art Center College of Design in California, he soon moved to New York City to break into the illustration field. He has had illustrations in The New York Times, Time magazine, Rolling Stone, and on numerous book jackets. He has been illustrating books since 1989. No, David! won a Caldecott Honor in 1999 (Blue Sky/Scholastic). He's an ardent baseball fan and his book Georgie Radbourn Saved Baseball (Scholastic, 1994) won a New York Times Best Illustrated Book of the Year award. He and his family live in Los Angeles.
