Linda Ashman Castles, Caves, and Honeycombs
What Could be Better Than This? Essential Worldwide Monster Guide

Born on December 10th in Schenectady, New York, Linda Ashman was one of four children in her family, growing up in Flemington, New Jersey.

She graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics and worked as a real estate analyst in New York City and Los Angeles before she returned to school at UCLA to get her master's degree in urban planning. Working in social and environmental companies, she finally decided what she really wanted to do: write children's books!

Her mother read to their family often, Linda enjoyed picture books for the stories and the illustrations, and she spent a lot of happy days in the public library. It seems that books cast a spell over her.

Today, she has more than a dozen books to her name and many awards for those books. She is quite a storyteller, with a wide-ranging imagination, and a love of language. Her books have been illustrated by the likes of Lauren Stringer, David Small, Jan Ormerod, and Henry Cole. Her work appears each year on Best lists.

She lives today with her husband, children, and pets near Denver, Colorado.

Happy birthday, Linda! We're looking forward to more from your inventive mind.
