When the king seeks Isabel out in her enchanted forest, it is almost as if she is waiting for him. He needs her help, and she must give it, because it is her duty to protect him. She is the shape shifter and the ruler’s protection is why she came to be. Or is it? Is she really who she thinks she is?
Isabel can’t always do what a shape shifter should. She is not supposed to feel, but emotion sometimes supersedes duty. In the past she could transform in an instant into anything she desired, but now that happens only in her fantasies. This is a book full of discovery, intrigue, mystery and a few surprises and is one of those books I couldn’t put down.
It took author Leah Cypess seven years to complete this riveting first novel based on an image she’d had “of people on horseback riding through a mist-filled forest, and of a supernatural creature who knew they were coming for her.” This is a must read for lovers of fantasy and I look forward to Cypess’ next title with great anticipation.
